House-Autry Mills Receives Industry Appreciation Award

House-Autry Mills Receives Industry Appreciation Award on June 2, 2014

On Monday, the Johnston County Commissioners and the Johnston County Economic Development Advisory Board recognized House-Autry Mills of Four Oaks for their commitment to Johnston County and community support by honoring the company with the County’s “Industry Appreciation” award. This award is presented quarterly to Johnston County Industries.

"Existing Industries and Businesses are extremely important to the economic strength of Johnston County", stated Jeff Carver, Chairman of the Johnston County Board of Commissioners. "Today we are honored to recognize House-Autry for not only their commitment in providing an excellent product, but their commitment to providing excellent jobs and continued support of our communities".

The Company started in 1812 when the House family migrated from England to Newton Grove, North Carolina.

The millstones for the original mill were shipped across the Atlantic from England to Wilmington, North Carolina. Once it reached the port, it was then ferried up the Cape Fear River and transported by oxcart and mule team to the original mill site in Newton Grove.

The House mill grew and eventually merged with the Autry Brothers Mill Company in 1967 to form what is now called House-Autry Mills. In 2001 they relocated their mill to a state-of-the-art facility to Four Oaks.

"House-Autry's steadfast support of Johnston County and the Town of Four Oaks exemplifies what it means to be a great corporate citizen," expressed Allen Wellons, President of the Johnston County Economic Development Advisory Board. "For over 200 years they have called North Carolina home and we are proud that their corporate roots are right here in Johnston County."

Today, House-Autry products are available in thousands of grocery stores in 37 states. Their products are also being served through food service distributors, restaurants and restaurant chains throughout the country.
