Bailey Feed Mill Receives Industry Appreciation Award

Bailey Feed Mill Receives Industry Appreciation Award

Smithfield NC – On Monday, the Johnston County Commissioners and the Johnston County Economic Development Advisory Board recognized the Daniel’s Family and Bailey Feed Mill of Selma for their commitment to Johnston County and community support by honoring the company with the County’s “Industry Appreciation” award. This award is presented quarterly to Johnston County Industries.

“In today’s economic development chase of new companies, I am proud of the fact that Johnston County values and appreciates our Existing Industries and Businesses”, stated Tony Braswell, Chairman of the Johnston County Board of Commissioners. “Established companies are extremely important to the economic strength of Johnston County and we are very thankful to the Daniel’s family commitment to providing a service to our local famers as well as manufactures with their Rail and Transload services.”

Bailey Feed Mill was founded in 1952 in Bailey, NC by Thomas Daniel as a custom feed mill and grain elevator. Daniel’s son, Al, built Bailey Feed Mill as a reputable grain business during the 1970’s and 80’s, establishing solid relationships throughout the southeastern United States, and laying the foundation for future business endeavors. In 1991, the business expanded to Selma, NC, when Daniel bought the facility at 404 East Preston Street, as a grain elevator but saw additional opportunities with its ideal location and dual railroad resources. Located at the rail crossings of North Carolina RR/Norfolk Southern Rail and the CSX Rail lines, over the past 20 years, the Selma NC facility has expanded into a major transloading facility, currently handling 20 different products. Bailey Feed Mill and its subsidiaries of: NSEW Corporation and STS II LLC remain Daniel family owned and operated today.

“Johnston County and Selma, in particular, has a long and rich history with the railroad,” expressed Cheryl Oliver, Mayor of the Town of Selma and Chairperson of the Johnston County Economic Development Advisory Board. “Bailey Feed Mill saw this history as an economic opportunity and organically created an “inland port”. Not only do they assist our agriculture industry by getting goods to market, but they also support our area petroleum distributors and manufacturers such as Caterpillar in Clayton.”

Although Bailey Feed Mill may have started in the agricultural sector, today the company is able to transload a wide variety of other products such as: Pipe, Alternative Fuels, Salt Products, Portland Cement, Lime, Heavy Machinery and Equipment and Crane Mats just to name a few. In the words of Douglas Daniel, President Bailey Feed Mill, “We’ll handle whatever will ship or haul, as long as it fits in a truck or railcar.”
