Sysco Foods Receives Industry Appreciation Award

Smithfield NC – On Monday, the Johnston County Commissioners and the Johnston County Economic Development Advisory Board recognized Sysco Foods of Selma for their commitment to Johnston County and community support by honoring the company with the County’s “Industry Appreciation” award. This award is presented quarterly to Johnston County Industries.

“Existing Industries and Businesses are extremely important to the economic strength of Johnston County”, stated Tony Braswell, Chairman of the Johnston County Board of Commissioners. “Today we are honored to recognize Sysco Foods for their commitment to providing excellent jobs and continued support of our communities”.

Located on US Highway 70 Bypass in Selma, the facility is the ideal location for any business whose transportation logistics require easy access to major highway routes.

Sysco is the global leader in selling, marketing & distributing food products to restaurants, healthcare & educational facilities, lodging establishments and other customers who prepare meals away from home. Their products also include equipment & supplies for the foodservice & hospitality industries. “While doing all these business activities, Sysco does not forget that it is part of a community,” expressed Selma Mayor Cheryl Oliver and Chair of the Johnston County Economic Development Advisory Board. “They provide support at all levels from hosting the annual Smithfield-Selma Chamber’s State of the Communities Luncheon, to helping sponsor local events.”

Today, Sysco Foods operates approximately 200 distribution facilities serving approximately 425,000 customers. For fiscal year 2016 that ended July 2, 2016, the company generated sales of more than $50 billion.

“This August, Sysco celebrated their 10th Anniversary in Selma and it seems like only yesterday that we were at their ground breaking ceremony,” continued Commissioner Braswell. “Their vision is to be their customers' most valued and trusted business partner. In our eyes, Sysco is operating in line with that Mission and Vision with the Town of Selma and Johnston County.”
